We have done all our testing with Group 31 (100 Amp Hour) deep cycle marine batteries. These are the most popular batteries used for fishing boats and other marine applications. We have tried using smaller Group 24 or 27 batteries and they seem to work fine as well but the run time will be a lot shorter than with a Group 31 battery. With a fully charged Group 31 battery, we have had no problem running our DeekDiver from dawn to dusk with the momentary pulse action. If you just turn it on and leave it on (which we don’t recommend), it should run about 9-10 hours.
If your battery is more than 3-5 years old, you should take it to a battery store or automotive store and have it tested. Batteries don’t last forever and your battery might just be too old. Maintaining your battery is important!
Again, it depends on how old your battery is. Even a brand new Group 24 battery will only have half the run time of a Group 31 battery. Add any amount of age to it, and the run time for the DeekDiver will drop off quickly.
Yes, they work great! Just make sure you get a Group 31 sized battery. Lithium batteries typically hold their charge longer in storage and weigh a lot less than “standard” batteries, both of those are good reasons to use one.
With the cage and weed-cutting blade on the DeekDiver, not a lot of ice makes it through the cage, and the blade cuts algae, “seaweed,” rice, and corn debris pretty easily.
We sell 1-2 replacement blades a year, company wide.
We don't recommend extending the power cord and we don't sell extension cords. The problem is voltage drop with 12 volts.
Extending the power cord reduces the power getting to the motor, which reduces effectiveness and might burn up the motor. We suggest you use the DeekDiver as it comes.
We have had several hunters get back to us that they dig a hole in the mud under the DeekDiver to get the required depth. They mark this spot and put the DeekDiver back in this whole when they use it next. If you shorten the leads too much, the prop will cavitate and the motor/water sounds very unnatural.
We designed this product after using a similar one for years until we couldn’t buy parts from Ebay any more. We wanted metal arms that didn’t break all the time and a prop that didn’t get clogged. We can’t say that it never gets clogged but we can tell you that it doesn’t get clogged very often. We have much fewer issues than other products on the market.
We are putting together a video on how to do that. Keep an eye out for that on this page. We think the leads work the best at about 10-12 inches in overall length. We made them a little long so each hunter can customize them to their desired length.
We recommend that you connect the leads to the decoys and arms at home or in the truck where it is warm and well lit. Trying to attach the leads in the dark when it is cold and holding a flashlight in your mouth can be challenging. If you like this type of stuff, have at it! Our fingers work better when they are warm so transport your decoys with the leads and arms attached in the carry bag and just attach the arms to the machine in the field with the set screws. Saves a ton of time and aggravation.
