IceQuacker FAQs

IceQuacker FAQ's

  • "What Size Battery Do I Need for an IceQuacker?"

We have done all our testing with Group 31 (100 Amp Hour) deep cycle marine batteries.  These are the most popular batteries used for fishing boats and other marine applications.  We have tried using smaller Group 24 or 27 batteries but they just don’t have the power needed to run an IceQuacker for extended periods of time.

  • "I Have a Group 31 Deep Cycle Marine Battery but My Run Time Is Not Great."

We have been getting about 5 hours on our Group 31 battery, but we store it indoors. Our battery is pretty new, and we maintain it.

If your battery is over 3-5 years old, you should take it to a battery store or automotive store and have it tested.

Batteries don't last forever, and your battery might just be too old.  Maintaining your battery is important!

  • "All I Have Is a Group 24 Battery. Will That Work?"

Again, it depends on how old your battery is. Even a brand new Group 24 battery is only going to have half the run time of a Group 31 battery, add any amount of age to it and the run time for the IceQuacker drops off quick.

  • "Can I Use a Lithium Deep Cycle Marine Battery?"

Yes, they work great!  Just make sure you get a Group 31 sized battery. Lithium batteries typically hold their charge longer in storage and weigh a lot less than “standard” batteries, both of those are good reasons to use one.

  • "How Can I Extend the Battery Time on My Battery To Use the IceQuacker Longer?"

ShowMe Ducks has a 12V digital timer (Model Timer1) so that you can cycle the IceQuacker on and off, extending your battery life.

  • "How Big of a Hole Will the IceQuacker Open Up in the Ice?"

It depends on several factors. How deep is the water you are putting the IceQuacker in? Water that is 12” deep under the ice is about 1 or 2 degrees warmer than the ice or it would be ice as well! Deeper water can be 6-8 degrees warmer than the ice. This doesn’t sound like much but warmer water melts surface ice a lot faster than water that is only 1 degree warmer than the ice.  Other factors include air temperature, wind speed, how thick the current ice is (thicker ice actually insulates the water below better), if the sun is out, and more. In summary, there is no formula and it depends on all these variables.

  • "Do IceQuacker Blades Break Very Often?"

No. With the cage and weed-cutting blade on the IceQuacker, not a lot of ice makes it through the cage, and the blade cuts algae, “seaweed,” rice, and corn debris pretty easily.  We sell 1-2 replacement blades a year.

  • "Can I Extend the Power Cord? Do You Sell Extension Cords?"

We don’t recommend extending the power cord and we don’t sell extension cords. The problem is voltage drop with 12 volts.  Extending the power cord reduces the power getting to the motor which leads to reduced effectiveness and might burn up the motor. We suggest you use the IceQuacker as it comes.

  • "Where Can I Buy Replacement Parts?"

ShowMe Ducks website!  We will have all the replacement parts available on our site.  If you can’t find it, shoot us an email at info@showmeducks.com and we’ll get back to you.
